Friends With Benefits

First things first, get your mind out of the gutter!!!

Did you know that research shows that individuals who feel a sense of security, belonging and trust in their community have better health?

Being a part of a connected community means knowing who you live next to; saying hello, smiling, waving and stopping for a chat from time to time. It could mean borrowing a cup of sugar from the neighbor, or mowing the lawn for a single mom.

We hear stories about communities looking after each other in times of great need, like the neighbors who rallied together to support a child with cancer. Or the friendships between stay at home moms that hold each other up when life kicks you down. Or the street that now celebrates with a block party every year.

I feel grateful for the community connections that I have made over the years. Months after starting this business, I lost my husband unexpectedly. My circle stepped up in so many ways to show me the love and support I needed. I am blessed that my community, my clients, have continued to help me time and time again.

Two summers ago, a couple of amazing women, I’m now honored to call friends, offered me their homes so I could continue to teach cooking classes to kids and earn an income to support my kids. More recently, one of those women has helped guide me, helped me grow and shift my business through COVID into the blossoming business it is becoming today.

I am SO thankful for my connection to the Brightside family. Chilliwack is incredibly lucky to have them as part of our community.  Real people, who truly care about providing local products and supporting local entrepreneurs. A perfect example of what community connection means.
